1. Exfoliate

To get soft hands, you should exfoliate around two or three times a week, depending on how dry and calloused your hands are. You could use a hand scrub like the L’Occitane One Minute Hand Scrub formulated with nourishing Shea butter, or the Lush Salted Coconut hand scrub containing sea salt to exfoliate and cleanse skin, as well as coconut oil to moisturise. Alternatively, you could create your own hand scrub at home by mixing two tablespoons of sugar, a tablespoon of coconut or olive oil and a tablespoon of honey. You can also add a teaspoon/a few drops of an essential oil of your choice for the scent.

2.  Moisturise

Moisturising is particularly important after exfoliating or washing your hands a lot, especially in winter. Try The Body Shop’s ultra-nourishing Hemp Hand Protector, or, if you are willing to splash out, the best-selling Clarins Hand and Nail Treatment Cream.

3. Take care of your cuticles

Use cuticle oil like the Lush Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter on the cuticles and then use an orange nail stick or soft cloth to gently them push back.

4. Prevent dry hands

Prevention is better than cure, so it is a good idea to take precautions, especially during winter. Wear gloves when you are washing dishes, use moisturising hand wash to counteract the drying effects of chemicals in soap such as sodium lauryl sulphate. Wear gloves during winter and if it is particularly cold, apply rich hand moisturiser such as Burt’s Bees Shea Butter Hand Repair Cream and gloves just before going to sleep for some intensive hydration.
